February Letter to CMON
As mentioned back in January, one of our goals is to provide regular feedback and updates on the state of Dark Age to CMON. Below is the second of these updates summarizing what’s happened throughout February, along with some general discussion about the future of Dark Age.
Before I get started with the usual updates from the Dark Age community, I had a couple of questions about the state of the game. I understand if you’re not able to answer them, but I wanted to raise them anyway so folks at CMON were aware of the main concerns that the Dark Age community has.
First, back in November, several people had asked CMON via Facebook about Dark Age’s status, and the response was that an announcement would be coming soon. It’s been a while since then, but there hasn’t been an announcement yet. Can you confirm if an announcement is indeed coming? Even just a reiteration that it’s coming would do a lot to calm the community’s fears.
Second, what can Samaria Lives and the Dark Age community as a whole do to help the game? Through Samaria Lives, we’ve already helped provide support for community tournaments, new and updated rules, and resources for proxy models (since official ones are hard to find). However, without some form of official support (in particular, models in stock), our ability to help grow the game is rather limited.
With that in mind, a number of us within Samaria Lives would be happy to discuss supporting the game in more concrete ways, with anything from running/promoting more events to helping produce/restock miniatures. We’d be happy to discuss any kind of collaboration, licensing agreements, or other arrangements to help revive support for the game.
With the questions out of the way, I hope you’ll take a moment to follow along with what the Dark Age community has been up to the past month!
First up, the final version of the 2019 community tournament rules has been posted, featuring a “best of” collection of scenarios from previous tournaments, updated where necessary to fit in with the current ruleset. In addition, there are several Dark Age tournaments coming up in March, including a 1000pt MTI at Off the Wall Games in Massachusetts and two charity tournaments at AdeptiCon!
In other game-playing news, the crew at Infinity Idiots recently posted a new battle report featuring the Dragyri Shadow Caste versus St Isaac’s Forsaken. The Gotham to Samaria group, which Infinity Idiots are a part of, also hosted a sizeable event in the UK that generated a lot of interest from prospective Dark Age players. Finally, the Western Australian community has been going strong and has a steady group of players itching to expand their factions or buy their own models so they don’t have to borrow them anymore!
To round things out, the community has made further progress in helping new players get into the game, with significant updates to the recommended proxy models list (now standing at 33% complete) and an all-new online army builder (currently getting its domain name set up). Both of these should make it easier to help recruit new players into the world of Dark Age. In fact, new members are still consistently joining the main Facebook group, Samaria Reborn, and asking for help getting into the game!
All of this news makes me optimistic for the Dark Age community, but as I said above, there’s only so much we can do in an unofficial capacity. I hope that those of you at CMON can help us to grow this crazy game and ensure its position at the best tabletop wargame of all time!
